  • Words, like fashion, come in and out. Some come to stay, others get beaten to death and we wish would go away.   'Innovative' found a new life, becoming a corporate buzz-word and advertising favourite in the last 5 plus years.   If a company is said to be 'Innovative', we should be buying whatever they're selling.   Of course, as soon as everyone is claiming to be innovative, the effect is lost and it's time for a new word.

Early this decade as well, we (me and my former boss) came up with the 'Legends' brand. Not a new word, but at that point, few were using it. Now it appears everyone is, from car manufacturers to wine to CD compilation series to awards given out by Billboard.   click here for the Allman Bros Legend Live story

Speaking of words over-used. Have I told you the the 3 most overused words on the radio?

Absolutely - this is the response most commonly given during an interview when the interviewer has nothing to say but this unnecessary statement of affirmation.

Unbelievable - this is typically used when something isn't actually unbelievable.

Of course - for example "of course such-and-such an album came out in 1975".   In actual fact most facts that follow 'of course' aren't obvious to most people, only person saying 'of course', as a kind of unwarranted apology for stating the fact. Either that or the statement is actually very obvious to everyone (for example "it's Tuesday", or "the sun came out again today", in which case why bother saying it?)

Don't believe me, that these are the 3 most overused words on the radio? Listen all day day and count 'em up.   Get back to me with your total.    Or maybe you have a life ;), in which case never mind.

It's a slow news day.   My mind is wandering.

    Cheers,
    Jeff
